Despite heavy southerly rain, the event attracted' a crowd of remarkable proportions. A two-hour postpone ment conferred no advantage, but the water was excellent throughout the race. Miss Ethel not ahead of Tory Chick at the end of the first circuit, maintaining that position to the end of the 'race. Pelorus Jack lapped consistently in 3 min. 25sec, and the rate at wind! she ' improved her lead made it apparent Othat the result was a foregone coiidu sion.

The average speed of the winnei approximated 54 miles per hour. Miss Ethel and Tory Chick traversed each circuit at a steadv hat. The total distance was 18 land miles. Therefore the time. flOmiii. 29see., was regarded as highly satisfactory, especially as the winner could have improved on her performance had that been necessary.
