Tho ground was in good order. The men’s representative game, played between .Wairoa and Poverty Bay, was for the Single. Cup and badges, and the women’s game, also between Wairoa and Poverty Jhiv, was for the Lady Carroll Shield. These were the first matches for these trophies this season.

TOURNAMENT FINAL Caledonian beat ’Foresters A in the King’s Birthday tournament men’s final, plavcd shortly after midday. No goals were scored, the issue being decided on a penalty corner after extra time had been plaved. The game was played in two 10-minute spells. During the opening 'half of the first spell, the Caledonians forced the pace, and gave the. appearance of securing an easy win, but the Foresters’ defence held good. The remainder of the game was very even, but neither team could score. Time was called with the score sheet unopened. 11l the extra spell played, Caledonian secured a. penalty corner, which decided the issue. SINGLE CUP RETAINED MEN'S REP. MATCH Poverty Bay retained the Single Cup and badges to-day when the men s representative team defeated Wairoa by a comfortable margin. The teams were: Wairoa.—lhaia, A. Tahora, Awarangi, Coe, Edwards, T. Tohara, Adsett, Marslin, T. Duley, Iliko, Thomas. Poverty Bay.—Moore, Scholium, Stacey, Gavin, J. Turbitt, Douglas, Quinn, Slade, Jones, T. Turbitt, McLean.

The game was more even than the scores indicate. Hay was fast throughout, and understanding of each other s piny and combined effort secured the big advantage in goals for Poverty Bay. The Wairoa defence was sound, Awarangi being good in stopping and strong in hitting, while lhaia in goal brought off some tine saves. Three quick goals came near the commencement, and another was scored just before half-time, most being the result of good combined effort on the part ot the home forwards. Jones and T. lurbitt scored the goals between them, and both were prominent throughout, Jones showing stick work almost equal to Turbitt’s, while Slade also showed some bright flashes towards half-time. The Poverty Bay forwards displayed a tendency towards too much individual effort, which, although producing some pretty stick work, was not as effective as combined pllay. Half-time came with the score: Poverty Bay 4 Wairoa 0 Tiie Wairoa forwards showed a flash of splendid combined effort after the resumption, and T. Duley opened up u movement which got to the home goalmouth, Moore saving. T. Duley showed admirable control of the bail n little later, but did not receive sufficient support from the rest of the. line., which indulged ioo much in hard hitting. Duley’s form was a distinct improvement on that of last Saturday,.when he played for Poverty. Bay against the Maoris. For a while Poverty Bay did not seem to make serious efforts to force matters, but when the solid Wairoa defence kept the home team out and Ihaia’s cool mastery of the ball defeated tho few shots which came his way, the Poverty Bay side renewed its efforts. J. Turbitt fed tho forward line judiciously, and showed something of his old form. Edwards, centre-half, was playing a calm and well judged game for Wairoa. placing his clearing hits well to the forwards, who broke away on several occasions. A. Tohara, fullback, was also a factor in the defence. As the spell proceeded and no additions were made to the score, the Poverty Bay for- ! wards tried to get back into their stride, and indulged in short passing which several times resulted iu shots being sent in, but Ihaia kept his goal well, bringing down one high shot which seemed almost impossible to stop. The game ended with a scoreless second half. Tho final score was: Poverty Bay 4 Wairoa 0 Messrs. K. Smith and G. Burkinshaw ( were the referees. LADY CARROLL SHIELD At half-time the scores were: Poverty Bay nil, Wairoa nil.
