Lane, Presbyterian cleric, accepted the challenge of ex-reeve Albert Goldthorp'e, Colborne township. to a wood-splitting and sawing contest. After vainly trying to keep up with the clergyman, the ex-reeve, a fanner, threw down the axe and admitted defeat.
