COOK COUNTY COUNCIL
THE MONTHLY MEETING The Cook County Council met to-day. There were present: Crs. Charles .Matthews, chairman, ti. W. Sherratt, M. L. llolden. C. Tietjen. M. T. B. Hall. E. 11. Baker. F. I >. Shanks. ,1. Tombleson. and s. T. Gray.
Mr. I-:. T. Stone, secretary ol' the VVaipaoa School Committee, drew attention to the state of the roads on both tineast and south side of the school, the surface water from which drained into Ihe school grounds, which became waterlogged in wet weather. Six ratepayers on MeKon/ie's road. VVaihirere. asked for improvements to the road. Mr. A. IVrodie. Patutahi, wrote con. plaining of obstacles on a road near Ihe liepongaere homestead, stating his truck had been damaged by coming into contact with some of these, which include wagons, ploughs, and posts. -The matter was referred to the riding member ami
engineer. The Public Trust solicitor advised steps taken for finalising conversion loan arrangements. "As the conversion order does not contain any provision for the council to strike a new special rate," he wrote, "the existing differential special rates will continue as security for the conversion debentures.-"—The matter was deferred till the next meeting. The county ranger, Mr E. A. Cameron, reported that 155 head of stock had been impounded during the month ended July 15.
Mr. M. YV. Douglas. Whangara, wrote asking for 58 chains of metalling on bis road.—The matter was referred to the engineer.
