RAILWAY FENCES
CONCERN BEING FELT COUNTY COUNCIL ACTION The Cook County Council to-day decided to make representations to the Counties' Association in an endeavor to secure some redress regarding the failure of the Railway Department to maintain fences on the railway line. This action was taken following a letter from the Gisborne and East Coast Sheepowners' Union drawing attention to the difficulties of settlers owing to the department's attitude, which was causing some concern to many.
It was decided to support the. union's protest, and the chairman, Cr. Charles Matthews, was deputed to bring the matter before the Counties' Association. Cr. M. T. B. Hall said that for the safety of people travelling on the railway the. department should take some •steps to keep the fences in order
