WITCHCRAFT CHARGE
SECOND IN A CENTURY
LONDON, June 10.
At Carlisle Assizes yesterday Thomas McGce and liis wife Katey, tVith her brother, James' MeCourt ' were acquitted of conspiring to obtain goods and cash by a worthless cheque. Mrs. MeGoo was also charged under vac Witchcraft Act of 1735 with ""undertaking to fell a. woman's fortune. She was .found not guilty on all counts.
There have only been two prosecutions? under this Act in the last century, the other being in 190-1, and Air. -Justice .Singleton, commenting; on the fact, told the jury they were making history.
