NAPIER-WAIROA ROAD
WHIEINAKI HILL DIVERSION BITUMEN PROGRAMME The Hawke’s Bay County Council is considering a proposal to divert the main Napier-Wairoa road for a short distance in order to eliminate the several awkward turns which cars have at the present tiibe-to negotiate on-the section a short distance from Bay View known as WhiriHill. A suggestion that this work should be carried out was brought to the notice of the council some months ago and it is likely that the proposal .will be advanced a further stage at the next meeting of the council, when the establishment of a relief camp in this vicinity may be considered. The scheme which tho council has in mind is to establish r a new .road round the hill on the seaward side, ample space .having been provided as a residt:of the uplift of the land by the earthquake of 1931. ' -, The main road in this vicinity was considerably improved last summer, when about 3-| miles from Bay View northwards was permanently tar sealed, ‘ihiridg the coming! summer it is hoped to carry out further scaling work here and to practically complete the permanent surfacing s as'far as’Tangoin.
