FLEMINGTON BACKS STEEPLES TO RLAAVENA REDDITCH DESTROY ED (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) MELBOURNE, July 14. The Flcmiugtou races were held 'yesterday, the principal events resulting:— Grand National Steeples.—Riawena, 9.13 (Healy), 1; Pactolus, 10.7 (E. Webster), 2; Oldhome, 10.5 (Hynes), 3. Nine started. Raskassa and Fulham were casualties, falling before the mile had been accomplished. Pactolus, Boy Blue, Richmond Tiger, Membo and Redditch kept well together for two miles when the field began to spread out. The admirers of Redditch received a severe shock when lie fell at the last i fence and broke his hind leg, and was destroyed. Riawena, Olrhoine, Boy Blue and Pactolus alternately assumed the lead. Then Boy Blue fell, Membo began gradually to drop back and Richmond and Tiger completely tailed off. Pactolus looked like the winner approaching the last jump, but Riawena. ridden desperately, managed to defeat. Pactolus by a head. Ten lengths away came Oldhome, and half a furlong further hack came Membo, with Richmond Tiger, completely out of the race. Time, 6.34. Lawn Handicap.—All At Sea, 8.1 (Skidmore), 1; Poldean, 7.0 (Pcrcival), 2; Geyser. 7.2 (Ayres), 3. Twelve started. AVon by. a head and two lengtiis. Time, 1.20 U July Handicap.—Charles Fox, 8.1 (Breasley), 1; Metro, 7.11 (Voitre), 2; Last- Court, 8.4 (Sharp), 3. Fifteen started, including Epigram, Quarto anil Firebrick. Won by half a length and three and a half lengtiis. Time, 1.46. Shatter was unplaced in the Doulla Galla Hurdles, which was won by Akanrce.
CANTERBURY PARK RACES
GOLDEN CHANCE’S WIN SYDNEY, July 14. The Canterbury Park races resulted : Maiden Handicap, first division.— Golden Chaiice, 8.2 (R. Reed), 1; Rob ber, 9.0 (U. Mu mo), 2; Oahvcera, 7.2 (Parsons), 3. Thirteen started. Won by two lengths. Time, 2.25jj. ’ Stratosphere was unplaced in Hie see ond division of the Maiden Handicap, and Dual Ratio finished third in th«third division of the Maiden Handicap. King of Diamonds and Mananui were unplaced in the second division of the Flying Welter Handicap. Liniholmi was unplaced in the Canterbury Handicap. Loud Speaker finished third in the first division of the Juvenile Handicap. Prince Pombal finished third in the Ashbury Handicap, in which Forestry. Queen Helen and Samoan were unplaced.
