Dr. Kurt Schusehnigg, Chancellor of Austria, was injured, his wife was killed, and his son' seriously injured, when his car coltdcd with a tree at Linz. : A report that the accident was due to foul play is officially denied. The chauffeur was suffering from sunstroke and lost control. He died of internal injuries a few minutes after being taken to hospital. Frau Schusehnigg was killed instantly. Dr. Schusehnigg’s son. who is a violinist, underwent on operation, Dr. Svhuschnigg owes his life to being thrown from the car. His injuries are superficial, but he is suffering from shock. Dr. Schusehnigg broke down when he heard of his wife’s death. _IIe went to the chapel where the remains were placed and knelt in prayer. The Cabinet hastily met and decided to recall the Vice-Chancellor, Prince Starhcmberg, from Venice to take control till Dr. Schusehnigg is restored to health. Extraordinary precautions _ were taken following the accident, owing to nervousness due to the nearness of the anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Dollfuss. ‘ Auxiliary police were mobilised and the Heimwelir have been ordered to stand by. If is reported that the late Frau Schusehnigg recently received an anonymous parcel of mourning accompanied by a note: “You may find these useful in the near future.’’ Dr. Schusehnigg suffered concussion and does not remember the accident. The city is in mourning. The Archduke Otto and Princess Zita sent messages expressing grief. Trince Starhembeig arrived by air. Accompanied by Dr. Schusehnigg, the body of Frau Schusehnigg arrived from Linz. Prince Starhemberg and the whole Cabinet were on the platform. The coffin was blessed by priests and taken to Heitzing parish church. Dr. Schusehnigg was only slightly inmred in the shoulder.

Dr. Kurt Schusehnigg is one -of the youngest of present-day European statesmen. Born in 1897, he became a deputy at the age of 30 years, end five years later was appointed Minister of Justice in Dr. Dollfuss’ Cabinet. On the assassination of Dr. Dollfuss last vear he became Chancellor.
