PROMISING OUTLOOK
MEAT NEGOTIATIONS NEW ZEALAND’S POSITION (Special to tlm Herald.) WELLINGTON, this day. Jt will be realised from the London cable message regarding the Argentine attitude towards the proposed meat agreement with Empire producers that the British import duty on New Zealand meat is still a matter under discussion. Apparently Britain.-, wishes to recoup from the importy duty the millions spent in subsidising the home beef producers. If this is confined to beef, its consequences to the Dominion will not lie so important as any heavy restriction’ oil- mutton and lamb imports, and in tliiw respect' the outlook is very promising, the prospect being that, New Zealand producers will hardly notice the regulative process provided shipments are confined, as usual, to first quality. With the meat agreement approaching finality, an interesting question arises regarding the possible regulation of the importation of dairy products into Britain. Careful inquiries into tin's aspect indicate that this question lias not been raised bv the British authorities. Therefore, it is assumed that they are content to leave it in abeyance until the agreement with Denmark in respect to its dairy quota runs out about March, 1936.
