ECLIPSE OF MOON
TOTAL STAGE VISIBLE OCCURRENCE ON TUESDAY The fifth eclipse of the year, a total one of the moon, will occur next Tuesday night, the full moon rising totally eclipsed as viewed from New Zealand. Moonrise will occur at 4.46 p.m., 16 minutes after the‘predicted time of mideclipse. Jhe lunar disc .will still bo totally obscured bv tho earth’s shadow, however, as the phase of total eclipse will persist until 5.20 p.m. If the eclipse is a "dark” one, in which the earth’s shadow is black or dark grey, it will be very difficult to detect the eclipsed moon just above the south-eastern , horizon until totality has ended. If the earth’s shadow happens to he a reddish or copper color, however, little difficulty should be experienced in locating the moon. 'The total phase of the eelipse will end at 5.20 p.m., and from then until 6.17 p.m. the earth’s shadow will be passing off the lunar disc. Fcnumbral eclipse, which is not likely to be detected by the untrained eye,* will continue, until 7.13 p.m. There have already been four eclipses this year, three of tho sun and one of the moon, and there Will be two further eclipses after the one occurring on Tuesday, both of the sun, making seven in all for the year, which is the greatest number possible in any year, while Tuesday’s eclipse will he, visible at moonrise in the evening, the last eclipse of the year will be visible here at sunrise.
