NURSES’ DAILY WALK
FROM 10 TO 20 MILES PERTH, July 0. _ The Western Australian Nurses Union has applied to the Stale Arbitration Court for a 44-hour week and increased wages for registered nurses and trainees in Government hospitals and other subsidised institutions. Mr. A. H. Panion, M.L.A., appearing for the union, said evidence would be given that nurses worked from 60 to 70 hours a week. They walked from 10 to 20 miles daily. This was proved by pedometers worn by nurses. Doctors would say that the nurses’ present hours were much too long, and that it would h,. of benefit to the nursing staff anct patients if hours were reduced. Nurses had been for too long sweated and exploited.
