PROPERTIES OFFERED
VALUATION OF LAND ACT The first list of properties that has been offered to the public for sale under section 4 of the Valuation of Land Amendment Act, 1933, is advertised in Auckland. Prior to tlie passing of this Act, any owner of a property who was dissatisfied with the value fixed on it by tho Assessment Court, had the right to call on the Valuer-General to reduce the capital value of the property to a lower sum named by him, or to buy the property from him at that price, on behalf of the Crown. As the Government was able to make little use of most of the properties so offered, it. acquired very few of them, and hence was forced to reduce the value to the lower sum named by the owner in almost every case. The new Act, however, extended tho right of taking the property at the sum named by the owner, to the general public, thus ensuring that owners did not secure a lower valuation for their properties than that at which they were prepared to offer them on the open market.
