SCHOOL ATTENDANCES

H.B. FIGURES FOR 1934 DECLINE IN ROLL Details of the attendances at the primary schools of Hawke’s Bay during 1934 were contained in the report of the secretary, Mr. W. L. Dunn, which presented to the meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board yesterday. 'i'lie figures are as follow:

The total number of children on the roll at December 31, 1934, .was 14,966, compared with 15,136 at the same period of 1933. The number on the roll at December 31, 1931, was 16,498. That was pnor to the raising of the school age.

“The decline in number of children enrolled, which has been general over the whole Dominion during the past three years, now appears to have been arrested to some extent,” said the secretary. “The enrolments for 1933 .were 999 less than in 1932, but from 1933; to 1934, the drop was only 179. “The effect of the widespread epidemic forms of sickness which occurred in the second term is strikingly shown in the figures of the average attendance, and is correspondingly reflected in the figures for the year, for whereas the annual average roll number declined by 179, the average attendance for the year shows a reduction of 473. •
