FARMERS’ UNION

POVERTY BAY EXECUTIVE The Poverty Bay provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union met; today. There were present Messrs .T. E. Benson, president, F. S. Bowen, .T. 0. Field, W. T. Vcitch, J. Brosrmhan, C. Tietjcn, .T. Innes, and D. J. Gumming. The secretary, Mr. C. Blackburn, was absent through illness, and his place was taken by Mr. A. Blackburn. The .Sheepowners’ Union advised that it had appointed Messrs L. H. Maclean, B. J. Holdsworth and F. E. Humphreys to meet Messrs. .T. E. Benson. W. T. Veitch, and G. V. Smith for the purpose of discussing matters of mutual interest. The letter also indicated the sheepowners’ agreement to meet representatives of the Farmers’ Union and A. and P. Association regarding the formation of young farmers’ clubsj—lt was decided to try and arrange a meeting of the two committees next Saturday morning. The Poverty Bay Stockbrokers’ Association, in reply to a letter from the uuion regarding lame sheep, stated that the union’s idea of treatment of the sheep was not in accordance with facts, as farmers buying sheep were accorded the same treatment as agents buying. A reject sheep was one that was lame or otherwise obviously defective. A reply regarding ticketing of-pens would be sent when a report' was received from the auctioneer’s.—The letter was received.
