SWIMMING
GISBORNE CLUB COMMITTEE MEETING A meeting of the Gisborne Swimming Club’s committee was held lust evening" Air. E. ,T.. Ghrisp presiding. The following were iulso present: —Alessrs. AL Owen, E. it. Beckett, C. E. Brown, G. Itobbie, li. F. Forster, Airs. J. Ileeney, Alessrs. It. Aislabie, T. Wauehop, and 11. H. Miller, hon. secretary. Air. H. W. Patterson was elected a member.
Advice was received that Mr. 11. LcBas had .retired from the, position ol secretary to the Hawke’s Bay centre after having served in that position since tire war. It was decided that a letter of appreciation of his services to the sport, both as an active swimmer and in an executive capacity, should be forwarded to him.
The following times were passed as records, all events being swum at the Alacrao Bath on' February s.—iOCyds. Ladies, Aliss H. AlcKnight, 77 4-ssec.; 100yds. Intermediate Girls, Aliss C. AleKnight, 81sec.; 100yds. Boys, T. Somerville, 74 2-ssec.; 50yds. girls, Aliss J. Garland, 35 4-ssec. It was decided that the Stoneham Cup river race over a distance of one mile from the Roebuck road bridge to the Point should be held on Saturday afternoon, Alarch 2, at 3.15 p.m., entries to close on Friday, Alarch 1.
The following selection of swimmers to compete at the Hawke’s Bay championships at the end of the month was confirmed by the committee: —Junior girls, Alisses J. Garland and At. Young ; junior boys, T. Somerville and R. Clay; intermediate, girls, Alisses C. AlcKnight and E. Elliott; intermediate boys, G. Selves, B. Foote, and 11. Wall; senior ladies, Aliss 11. AlcKnight; senior men, R.. Colebourne, J. Beckett, H. Holmes, P. Wilson, B. Robinson, D. Armstrong,T. Wauchop, ‘ R.. Cederwall, W. AlcKeague, W. Varley; manager, Mr. D. 11. Miller, and chaperon, Mrs. J. Heeney. The confirmation was subject to the above swimmers attending the baths each night next week for training purposes. It was decided to draw members’ attention to the fact that only financial members can travel in the team. It was decided to call a meeting of the above swimmers at the Macrae Bath next Alonday at 7.30 p.m. to discuss matters in connection with the trip.
