Larger Maize Yield In Best Crop For Years

'THE coming maize harvest should A give a higher yield than last year both in the. Gisborne . and Bay of Plenty districts, according to a review of the position just made. The Gisborne crops are the best for manv years, taking them on the aver age, and their yield should be approximately 00,00/) sacks, which is about 10,000 sacks above what is usually expected from this distinct. Bay of .Plenty crops are exceptional, and that district this season should produce equally as much as Gisborne, or about 20,000 sacks more Ilian last year. Both districts have had' unusually favorable seasons. Early crops made a splendid start, and most growers took advantage of the warm spring to plant, before the usual time. Crops were well forward hoi ore the elleets of the dry weather were fell, and wonderful progress was made, stalks towering above fences, being JO in 12 feet high in many eases. The heavy rain of the past week has been beneficial. it has helped, to till out the cobs, and has given sufficient moisture to keep the crops growing up to harvest time.
