SEIZURE OF OPIUM
MELBOURNE INCIDENT EARLY MORNING CHASE • . MELBOURNE/Feb. 4. Customs .officers early this ttoming effected a big opium seizure. They saw three men actihg suspiciously in a flat-bottomed boat near an overseas steamer berthed in the River Yam. Later they Saw them row away and transfer something to a motor van farther down the river. Customs officers, in cars, pursued the motor van at high speed, firing many shots at the tyres. They eventually overtook the van and arrested the trio.
Quite a number of tins of opium were afterwards picked up along the route ot the pursuit. _
