A determined attempt to steal a motorcar from a garage in one of tlie suburbs of Christchurch failed because the wouldbe thief locked himself out from the garage. In removing with his hands the padlock oii tlie door of the garage ho got tilings so jammed that he was unable to draw'the bolt which would have given him access to- the garage, and was compelled to leave without the car. A few taps with a hammer enabled the owner of the car to open the garage.
