Christmas was spent at sea by the passengers on two liners, the Alariposa and the Akaroa, which ‘arrived at Auckland last week-end from Los Angeles and London respectively. Owing to the fact that she crossed the international date line on Decomber 24, the Mariposa officially missed Christinas Day and when she arrived at Suva next day it was December 26 'Even without an official 'Christmas Day, the Mariposa’s passengers enjoyed all the festivities of tho season OIL December 24. Christmas trees were provided in both the first class and cabin class accommodation, and Air John Fuller, of Sydney, in appropriategarb, distributed gifts. Special treats were provided for children and a concert was held at night. The Alariposa spent New Year’s Eve at sea before ber arrival at Sydney, and a costume ball was held.

The Akaroa had passed Pitcairn Island before Christmas Day, which was observed in fine weather. There were only seven children on board the liner, ibut at 10 o’clock on Christmas morning they were visited in the nursery by Father Christmas and received" a great, assortment of presents. For the adults there was a gymkhana on deck in the morning and a special Christmas dinner and carnival dance at niglit.
