A record triple ascent of Mount Egmonl was made on Sunday by Mr. T. Wright, a member of the Taranaki Alpine Club, in 14 hours 10 minutes, which was 2 hours 32 minutes less than the, record established by Dir. Rod Syme on February 26, 1928.
Mr W. J. Graham, Councillor and a Freeman of London, who is in Christchurch visiting his M r A. Graham, is on his second visit to New Zealand, his first having been made .14 years ago. Mr Graham is accompanied by Mrs Graham. They lire touring the Dominion, and will sail for England from Auckland early in February.
Aboard the' steamer Golden State, which arrived at Auckland on Sunday from Los Angeles, are 3QCO tons of slioaks from New Westminster, Bellingham, Anascrites and Everette, on the Pacific Coast of North America. The timber is consigned to Tasmania, where it will be made into fruit cases. Three exceptionally large balks of lumber for Wellihgtori, 24in. square and 70ft. in length, were also aboard.
