BEACH MISSION
SERVICES FOR CHILDREN
C.S.S.M. FOR GISBORNE
An interesting series of beach services for children will be commenced on the Waikanue Beach on Saturday afternoon, and will be continued throughout the whole of next week. The children’s special service mission is an old organisation, and in Great Britain under the presidency of the lit. Rev. Bishop Taylor-Smith, 1v.C.8., C.V.0., D.D., chaplain-in-chief to tho forces, campaigns are conducted in the summer season on most of the popular .sands. Cf recent years the work, has been operating in New Zealand .under the leadership of Dr. J. M. Laird, and missions tiave been conducted on severiil of the leading beaches in botli islands. An extension this year brings the C.S.S.M. to: Gisborne. Although no outside workers will come this year to assist tho local organisers, the usual lines of the world-wide movement in conjunction with the Scripture Union will be followed. The Rev. Erie Batts is the leader of a Gisborne band of enthusiastic helpers who will assist in the conduct of a brief service daily at 2.30 p.m. At these services the children will be taught many of the old C.S.S.M. choruses and given a short object address. After tho service an interesting programme of sports, games, sand .competitions, and tideHghting will be run, while an occasional evening squash will be held. A willing band of children was busy to-day piling up the big sand pulpit which, marked with the red banner, will be the centre of activities.
