SMALLER BANK NOTES
OTTAWA, Oct. 17,
When Canada’s new central bank—the Bank of Canada —commences operations early next year one of its functions is the issue of paper currency which gradually will supplant notes hitherto issued by the chartered banks under rigid regulation.
The new bank notes will Ik? smaller than the present bills, but slightly shorter and wider than the United States currency introduced a few years ago. They will be 6in. long and 2Jin. wide. The present notes are 7gin. by 3|in., and the United States bills are 6 5-16 in. by 2 il-16in. There will be a considerable saving in paper, and it is held that the smaller notes make for greater convenience.
