IRISH DRAMATIST
WINS LIBEL ACTION
DUBLIN, Nov. 9.
The Free State High Court yesterday awarded. Austin/ Clarice, Irish poet and dramatist. £IOOO damages against the Cassell Company, publishers, for an alleged libel appearing in the third volume of! Arnold Bennett’s “JourTho entry, dated 1933, imputed a statement to Clarke' that Irish girls were as dirty as the holy water in which they dipped their fingers. The action was not defended by the Cassels, and it. is doubtful whether' the award will be effective outside the Free State. New action may be needed in London to implement the award, because of the limited jurisI diction of the Free State Court.
