STRUCK BY LIGHTNING
AIR LINER DISASTER
NO ATTEMPT TO LAND
THE HAGUE, Dec. 24,
The Royal Dutch Air Line, in a statement in a preliminary message, says that the “flying hotel’’ was struck by lightning. There is no evidence oi constructional fault. A Bagdad message states that Air Line officials waded 100yds. through the swamp to reach the machine, wmen is lying upside down in a sea of mud. The police allowed nobody to approach within five miles of the wreckage. Mr. Geysendorfer corroborates the lighting theory of the destruction of the liner. “He declares that the vessel was flying her usual >route from Cairo to Bagdad, and all the instruments indicate that she was maintaining her height anil was not attempting to land.
