PARTY AT SANDRINGHAM

Accompanied by the Duke and Duchess of Kent, Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret, the King and Queen travelled on Saturday from London to Sandringham, where the Court is expected to remain until the middle of February. It is anticipated that the King and Queen will then go to Eastbourne to stay at Compton Place, tho residence of the Duke of Devonshire.
Other members of the Royal Family assembled were at Sandringham' for a Christmas party. Yesterday, the King, for the third year in succession, played the principal part in the Christmas celebrations of his peoples in all parts of the Empire. His Christinas greetings were broadcast by the British Broadcasting Corporation at 3 o’clock on all its wave-lengths, and retransmissions were arranged for all parts of the Empire. The King- and Queen, the Prince of Wales, Duke and Duchess of York and Duke and Duchess of Kent walked to church in the morning, and then attended a family luncheon party at which the King’s health was drunk, after which His Majesty left his family, walked into his study and waited until a red light signalled that it was time to begin his broadcast speech. The family listened in an adjacent room through a loud-speaker. It was noticeable that His Majesty did not need to hesitate, or clear his throat, and there was no sign of a cough.
