W.I. CHRISTMAS PARTY

The Waikohu Hall, Te Karaka, was the scene of great hilarity on, Tuesday evening when the members of the Te Karaka Women's Institute entertained 80 children at their annual Christmas party. A beautiful Christmas tree, well laden witli toys and decorated with Chinese lanterns and streamers, was in the centre of the hall. Great was the excitement when Santa Claus arrived to distribute the presents to the little guests. The evening passed all to quickiy with games, dancingi and competitions, the children all looking: very gay in their party hats. Fuli justice ivas done to the delicious supper served by an energetic Kind of members anji at the conclusion of the party each dhild was handed a bag of sweets. For much of the success of the function thanks were due to Mr. W. Fisher, who erected the Christmas tree, and to Mr. S. Smithers for his valuable assistance -during the evening. The breaking-up of the Kanakanaia School took the form of a picnic, which proved most enjoyable. Races were held, and a delicious luncheon and afternoon tea was provided by the ladies of the district. Miss K. Bilham was presented with a tea wagon and Doulton plate by the parents of the children, as she is leaving this year to be married early .in January. They also presented Miss B. Orr with a present on behalf of the Sunday school pupils. Prizes were guven out, Edna Castles was dux of the school and gained the highest marks for attendance, and also passed the proficiency examination.
