SELLING OF FRUIT
SYSTEM RESENTED
BUYERS LAUNCH BOYCOTT

With the object of forcing certain changes in the system under which fruit is auctioned in Christchurch, members of the recently-formed Buyers’ Association launched a boycott against one broking firm this morning. It is the intention of the association, to direct the boycott against each firm in turn. j Two policemen stood outside the pfe--mises, having been summoned by the. manager. It is stated that one police* man, at the request of the manager,; escorted the secretary of the Buyers’; Association from the auction room, aftei' the man had been asked three times to leave. , , 1 Tho buyers stated that the troublewent back to the handling of Australian oranges. It was alleged that the: brokers let the buyers down by agreeing to exorbitant prices. The buyers had several ether complaints, and objected to the practice of allowing pi'ivate buyers to compete at auction and taking advantage of wholesale prices.
