When engaged in spraying ragwort on the side of the road hear Taumaru:iui. Mr John Smith, laborer, in the employ of 'the ohitra County Council, mot with serious'injuviOs' 1 through tho explosion of the sodium chlorate which he was ’using. Mr Smith's clothes caught on fire, nml he received severe bums oft the legs aml/body. Tfe was taken in the county engineer’s Car to Ohtlra, where he whs attdritiefl by a doctor, and was then removed to the Taumarunui Public Hospital.
