PLEASANT EXPERIENCE
BEHAVIOR OF CROWDS
THE DUKE IN AUCKLAND
(Por Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night
A high tribute to the behaviour of the Auckland citizens during Monday’s ‘demonstration of welcome to the Duke of Gloucester was paid by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Wohlmanri, in 'fin interview. “The orderly demeanor of the many thousands of Auckland people who took paft In 'tile reception was a striking feature of the welcome to Jlls Royal Hlghngss,” said the dommissiorier. “The. crowds; which, in places, were assembled four and six deep, greatly assisted the police and other traffic officials by giving n maximum clearance for the Royal procession. There was an entire absence of crushing 6r incipient stampeding, and no attempt ivas made to swarm the route after the leaders of the procession had passed. “In short, there was not a single incident to mar the happy spontaneity and orderly conduct of the proceedings and the functions of control to those immediately concerned fvere indeed pleasurable. The onlookers behaved throughout in a most exemplary fashion without allowing orderliness to detract from their enthusiasm or cordiality. It was a pleasant experience, and I welcome the opportunity to express my appreciation.”
