TWO MEN DROWNED
TRAGEDY IN WAIKATO
HELPLESS SPECTATORS
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. A double drowning accident occurred in the Waikato River yesterday afternoon near Tuakau bridge. The victims were :
Roy Lowrie, 26, a married man, a farmer, of Bombay.
Rex Wallingford Bush, 19, a- single man, a shop assistant, of Tuakau.
The tragedy was witnessed by Mr, Lowrie’s wife and two young cTnldren. Mr. Bush, his elder sister, and several other persons went for a swim. Suddenly Bush called for help. Lowrie rushed into the water to assist him. He reached and caught- him, but, after making fruitless efforts to move towards the shore, must have released his grip, for Bush disappeared from view. Lowrie then tried to regain land, hut almost immediately sank like a stone and did not appear again,
Mr. Bush was a brother of Mr. George Bush, of the P. and T. staff at Te Karaka.
