WEDNESDAY’S CARNIVAL

TE PUIA BATH OPENING

Boxing Day should witness one of the biggest crowds ever gathered at To Pina, judging by the number of people who have made and are making arrangements to be present. In addition to the big number that will be there from all over the Coast, it is safe to say thill over 100 cars will be making the trip from the Gisborne end.

The swimming Carnival in the afternoon on this occasion will be the main attraction. Visitors will be able to avail theniselves.nl the .use of the.public bath in the morning and also at the couchsion of the carnival, although the water will not be at its usual warm tern; cratnre, it being necessary to cool ii down for the carnival.

Splendid entries assure a nost successful carnival, and competition will be exceptionally keen in view of Ihe attractive nature of the cups presented by New Zealand -Breweries, I,muter! and Mr. D. J. Barry. The chib has arranged for a rms to transport swimmers, ‘ rind the bus will leave opposite the Poverty Bay Herald at 8. 7 >o a.m. Owing to the limited bus accommodation, ticket-holders only will be able to use the bus provided. The swimming carnival is being hold under the control of the Gisborne Surf and Swimming Club. Jn the case of Coast competitors, handicaps will not. be declared until the day of the carnival, also the handieapper retains the right to reliandieap a competitor who is unable to supply his times.
