LARGE SHARKS SEEN
PORT AHURIRI EXCITEMENT
The presence of four large shares lurking around the eastern pier head at Fort Ahuriri caused some excitement last Saturday. One shark nosed its way to within 3ft. of the pier. A fisherman baited an improvised shark hook and succeeded in tempting the shark to take the bait, but an endeavor to land the monster failed, the hook being straightened out.
The fish were of sufficient size to warrant a warning being given to bathers to take every precaution. At the present time sharks are 'breeding and are likely to remain close in to shore in search of food.
