EN ROUTE SOUTH
BYRD SUPPLY SHIP
BAY OF WHALES PUZZLE
MONTREAL, Dec. 19
The Bear of Oakland, en route to Little America, reports: “We have taken in full bunkers of coal and are now setting the rigging taut in preparation for violent Antarctic gales. We have aboard lons of supplies destined for Little America and provisions for the long voyage. Upon arrival at the Bay of Whales we shall dredge the bottom for biologic and geologic sped-' mens. We hope to throw light on the puzzling phenomenon of this permanent bay in a moving structure which elsewhere crumbles and varies its position.”
