YOUNG MAN’S CRIMES DUPE FOR ANOTHER (Per Press Association,) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Made ,a dupe of a Avell-knoAvn criminal a\Tio got him to cash i r alueJes cheques, John Ronald Northcott, 18, a laborer, Avas persuaded to do it once too often. He Avas arrested, ivhiic the master-mind escaped. 'Northcott appeared before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., on false pretences charges, and ivas convicted and admitted to probation for 12 months. The police said the accused cashed three fraudulent cheques, each for £l2, vvhich Avere front a hook in possession of the criminal. The money Avas Shaved. The lavo men then ivcnt to Wellington-and returned a short time, later, evidently having spent all the money, According to Northcott s statement, they lpid spent it on girls and drinks. He had signed the name of a well-known farmer to the cheques.
