FREIGHT ON STRETCHER
AMBULANCE COMPLAINT POSITION EXPLAINED (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. A statement was made this morning by the mother of tho girl patient concerned in the Wellington free ambulance complaint that after transport in their stretcher from Wellington to Dunedin it was sent back freight collect. It appears that the patient was brought to Dunedin Hospital on the stretcher, which, with the blankets, etc., was left at the hospital, the authorities there returning it to Wellington as stated. The girl’s mother said the whole thing was a misunderstanding. When she was told that tho free ambulance was providing facilities, it never struck her that a charge was involved, and, with her other worries, she did not think to inquire regarding the possible cost of the stretcher, blankets, and pillow. There was no intention to avoid payment of the account, of which they knew nothing till this morning. It was a most distressing thing to happen.
