WELLINGTON, this day. A cricket match between Wellington and Auckland commenced this afternoon in hot weather. Wellington won the toss and Hepburn and Ward opened to Cowie, down the wind, and Matheson. Runs came lowly, and Hepburn was caught by the wicketkeeper in Cowie’s third over. Ell and Ward made steady progress and the score at 1.45 p.m., was 51 for one wicket. The score at 2.30 p.m. was 80 runs for two wickets —Ward 30 not out; Ell, l.b w., b Sharp, 40.
