STRAIGHT THROUGH

NO STOP AT PUTORINO (Special to tho Herald.) PUTORINO, this day. It was not expected that the Duke of Gloucester would stop at Putorino this morning, en route from Napier to Wairoa, as the degree to which settlement has advanced in this neighborhood barely warrants the expectation of a large' public gathering, even on such an occasion. Nevertheless, residents of the Putorino area have been discussing for days the prospect of seeing the Duke, and several homesteads along the main highway were decorated for the passing of His Royal Highness. In lieu of a public gathering at any given point, the Duke, saw this morning, at intervals' along the Putorino section of the highway, little groups of enthusiastic settlers, demonstrating their goodwill towards the representative of the reigning family, and taking the fullest advantage of a glimpse of the distinguished personage whose personality and movements during tho past few days have focussed the attention of the whole of New Zealand upon him.
