SOUTH OF WAIROA

KEEN PUBLIC INTEREST ROADSIDE GATHERINGS THE MOHAKA STOP (Special to tho Herald.) MOHAKA, this day. Public interest in connection with the tour of the Duke of Gloucester through the district was shown this morning, when residents of the Mohaka area gathered practically at full force to welcome His Royal Highness on his arrival at the township. Much satisfaction was felt in regard to the inclusion of a stop at Mohaka in the programme of the Duke, and the large gathering here was an expression of satisfaction, as well as an expression of loyalty to the first member of the Royal family to pass through Mohaka. Proceedings hero were brief, the Royal party being under the necessity of pushing on to Wairoa and Gisborne, where larger gatherings and more important public functions awaited their coming. However, the Duko of Gloucester stayed long enough to impress 'his personality vividly upon the memories of adults and children of this area, and to leave with them a message of goodwill from His Majesty the King. The lloyal tourist was particularly interested, it was 'evident, in (the gathering of school children, among whom a majority were natives. His Royal Highness has not lost his first keen edge of interest in the Maori race, and he was observed .to spend quite a little time in contemplation of the juvenile members of that race during Iris stay at Mohaka.
