The Pukeko arrived at Gisborne at 5.20 p.m. to-day from Auckland. Aiguille and Alchemic have been scratched for all engagements at the Auckland races.—P.A. The death occurred at the Cook Hospital yesterday of Mr William McLean Jacks, aged 65. He was born in Turakina, and was of a roving disposition. Deceased had been resident in this district for only five years. Before being removed to hospital he was ,n.n inmate of the Memorial Home "or a long period. It is understood that the late Mr Jacks had a brother and two sisters living in different partß of the North Island. The funeral leaves Cochrane’s private chapel at 10 u.m. to-morrow for the Taruhern cemetery.
