The decoration of the illuminated address which is to bo presented to the Duke of Gloucester to-morrow was. much admired to-day, when the scroll was displayed in the show-window of Messrs. W. Good and Company, Limited. The address has been prepared on vellum, with the preamble and the Duke of Gloucester’s title in blue Gothic illuminated capitals, while the main body of the address is in old English capitals, in red and gold. The decorative scheme includes representations of a tiki in one corner, of nikau and punga ferns in another, carved panels down each side, and a splendidly-executed sketch of Poverty Hay, as it is behoved to have appeared at the time of Captain Cook’s landing, at the foot of the address. In this sketch the main features shown are the cliffs cf Young Nick’s Head, the Endeavour lying in the bay, and Maori canoes approaching tho vessel. The scene, presented as through the palisade of a Maori pa, is an extremely effective one, and a credit to Mr. Eric N, Gully, who executed the designs of the address.
