SELF-GOVERNING COLONY
WEST AUSTRALIA’S AM PETITION TO THE CROWN (British Official Wireless.) Rec. 10 a.m. RUGBY, Dec. 18. A petition on behalf of the Government, Parliament, and people of the State’ of Western Australia for leave to withdraw from the Australian federation, and for thfc restoration of their former status ns a separate selfgoverning colony within the British Empire, was presented in both Houses of Parliament. As presented in the House of •Commons, the petition consists of a scroll 26ft. long, encased in a handsomelypolished jarrah casket. It was deposited in the petition box behind the Speaker’s chair, and will be examined in due'course by the Public -Petitions Committee. *' ' In' the House of Lords, the Marquis of Aberdeen, in presenting the petition, said the right of petitioning the Crown was a fundamental principle of the constitution, and it was in order to afford the State of Western Australia facilities for availing itself of this right that he presented the petition. , ■ 1
