GERMAN NEGOTIATIONS PROSPECTS NOT BRIGHT MELBOURNE, Dec. 18. The Cabinet takes a gloomy view of the trade position with Germany, /and sees no hope of any arrangement by which Germany is able to participate in the current wool sales. Sir Henry Gullett, Minister directing trade treaties, said that a serious obstacle to a trade agreement that Germany is on the gold standard. It would require enormous tariff concessions. to enable her to export goods to Australia, while the bulk of the goods she could export would compete with Australian or British.
