GISBORNE CLUB FOU.R-OAR AND DOUBLE SCULLING Rowing was commenced in the Gisborne Rowing Club’s Executive Fours series last, evening over a mile course, while the Gordon double sculling, threequarters of a mile, was continued. M. Burridge, str., J. Crawford, D. Watt and R. Dudlield beat S. Brown, str., L. .Martin, 1,. Oldirig and G. B'lade in tlie first race. Burridge took the load from the start and led by threequarters of a length practically all the way. In the final sprint Brown improved his position to be beaten by a little over a canvas. In the second rtfee B. LeCompte, str., C. MeLernon, R, Chaplin and R, Owen beat A. G. Lentell, str., H. Hunter, K. Monk and E. Dudley. Lentell gained the advantage at the start and led by half a length for half the distance, .when LeCompte drew ahead and the finish saw him a length in the lead. In the double, sculling, a handicap event, the two first-mentioned races were rowed in the morning and the remainder' last evening.

J. Crawford-Smith and D. Patterson, Bsec., beat ,T. Malcolmson and E. Dow, ssec. Crawford-Smith made the most of iiis Jumdicap and established an early lead. In the latter part of the course he extended this to win by 1£ lengths. R. Garrett and R. Kinder, 6sec., beat, R... Anderson and A. Terry, 12Scc. Ahderson led by a small margin to the Derby street bridge, where Garrett jn his final effort drew level and went on to win by half a length, of.clear water. R. Nicoll and R. Coleman, 6sec., beat D. F. Mnii* and Don Muir, lOsec. Nicoll drew level at the and led for the rest of the distance to win by 1-i lengths K. Crarer and AT. Dobson, 6see., beat P. Weir and J. Williams, scr. Crarer made good use of his 6see. and led throughout to win by half a length of clear water. P. Foster and 0. Hansen, scr., beat T. McCallum and W- Owen, 2sec. Foster picked up bis handicap in. the first half-dozen strokes and established a comfortable lead to win by a clear water margin. D. Robertson and 8. MeLernon, 8 sec., beat G. McConnell and F. Roddick, scr. The lead Robertson gained in his Bsec. was too much for McConnell to overcome and although 'he was coming up at tho finish, Robertson won by two lengths. In the first round of the Gordon Doubles on Saturday, R. De Costa and M. Bright, 6sec., defeated G. C. Jones and V. Tvess, 4scc., by a littlo over half a length. The concession of 2 sec. was put lo good vise by the winners, who never let their opponents draw level.

Another first-round race gave a win to K. Bell over C. Shaw, the winner having the advantage of Bsec. in the handicaps, and Shaw- putting up a good tussle before admitting defeat by H lengths. Both the four-oar and double-scul-ling scries will be continued this evening on the Taruherii River,
