WOMAN BADLY BURNED ACCIDENT AT ROTORUA An elderly woman, Miss Florence Merritt, a 'resident of Auckland, was severely scalded on both legs on Wednesday' as the result of slipping into ft hot intid pool at Whakarewarewa. Miss Merritt, who has hec-n living in Rotorua for health reasons, was in the habit of spending a good deal of her tifue in the reserve,' and frequently cooked her meals in the hot pools as demonstration to her friends of the culinary possibilities ol the thermal wafers. Earlier in the morning she had placed some meat and vegetables in a pool, intending to return about 1 p.m. for her meal. She then left in company with her nephew and niece, in order to inspect some of the sights in the Government reserve, ami it was while on this tour that she slipped into a. hot pool. She was removed to hospital suffering iron, scalds on both legs as high as the knees.
