AMUSING ERROR
AT STATE WELCOME DUKE ENJOYS INCIDENT Au incident in which the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, figured prominently gave rise to an amusing few moments during the Government s official welcome, to the Duke of Gloucester at Parliament Buildings in Wellington on Saturday. After the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, had welcomed His Royal Highness it was the Prime Minister s turn to speak, and he commenced reading the wrong address first. Instead of the one to bo presented by New Zealand, Mr. Forbes began on that to be presented by the Uook Islands Administration. The Prime Minister had uttered two or three sentences when ho realised there had been a mistake. He then searched in the casket in front of the Duke for the right address, found it, and turning to Ills Royal Highness said : “I had better start again with the right one.” . , .. Mr. Forbes laughed, and so did the Duke, who obviously enjoyed tho mis take.
