N.Z. VISIT TO MELBOURNE (i. QUINN NOMINATED GISBORNE CLUB ACTION Executive members of the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club last, evening approved Hie action of the .secretary, Mr. J. E, Mercer, in forwarding to the New Zealand A.A. council details of the performances ot G. Quinn, the chib’s star sprinter, in support of bis nomination for selection to represent New Zealand at Melbourne, Reference to Mr. Quinn’s numerous successes was made by a number of speakers, and the hope was expressed that lie would be included in the New New Zealand team. There Wore present at the meeting Messrs. W. M. Wildish, chairman, R. Quinn, F. Gavin, L. Lynsky, F. Chitty, ,T. Algio, F. McDonald, T. Leslie, and J. E. Mercer, lion, secretary. A programme submitted by the .Ormond Sports Club, in respect, of its annual meeting on January 2, was approved, and a permit was- issued, on behalf of the Poverty Bay-Hawke’s Bay centre,- for tlie conduct of amateur athletic events at tlii.s meeting. It was decided to ask both the Ormond and Kaitaratahi dubs to include walking events in their programmes, this being a division of athletics which the association is anxious to promote. The reinstatement of V. G. Stoggall as an amateur performer was advised by the New Zealand council, Bteggnll’s reinstatement to date from July 1, 1935. Messrs. D. Martin, .T. Harrison, and .T. P. Martin were elected to the active membership of the chib. A number of matters in relation to the weekly track and field programmes were discussed, and instructions were given for some minor work on the club’s gear, with a view to bringing it up to New Zealand championship conditions. In connection with the holiday meetings in the country, the secretary was authorised to make transport arrangements for competitors living in town. The committee further decided Jo carry on with tho weekly track meetings through the holiday season.
