LONDON THEATRES
BOOM PERIOD CINEMAS PACKED London i$ spending lavishly on entertainment, writes a special correspondent. The theatres are experiencing a.period, which began in the early summer, of enormous business, and records are being broken by many of the revues and plays which have "caught on." This harvest is not being reaped at the expense of the'cinemas, for they, too, have been making money hand over fist. The big London "palaces" are packed from before lunch time, when the cheap prices rule, until shortly before midnight ; they seem to have no really slack period in the day. There are seven big! "pre-release" films running in the West End, and over 1,500,000 people have already been to see them, involving an expenditure of about .£250,000. The attendances for the present length of runs are as follow:—"House of Rothschild" (26 weeks), 600,000 people; "Blossom Time" (eight weeks), 293,000; "Nell Gwvn" (five weeks), 225,000; "Barretts of Wi in pole Street" (11 days), 140,500- "Bulldog Drummond Strikes Back" (two weeks), 114,000; "Jew Suss" (18 days), 100.000; "One Night of Love" (four weeks). 80,000.
