BOXING
LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE REGAINED BY FRANKLIN (Pur Press Association.) PALMERSTON N„ last night. Joe Franklin, of Gisborne, regained the lightweight title by defeating Ted Oxley of Pahiatua on a knock-out within one minute of the first gong. Oxley looked a bundle of nerves, while Franklin was confidence personified. He danced across the ring, ducked under a left, lead, stood up and clipped Oxley, who was moving in, with a beautifully timed right jolt. Oxley went down obviously dazed, but rose at two. Franklin tried again and missed, hut, in a mix np in mid-ling, again jolted Oxley, this time a little higher on the jaw. Oxley went down and took the count on his knee, rising just too late.
Oxley had beaten Franklin twice before on points and .subsequently Franklin had beaten Oxley twice bv knock-outs.
