Fun and frivolity prevailed at the Patutahi Hall last evening, the occasion being the annual Christmas .party given by tlie local branch of the Women s Institute for*members' children. there was a large attendance of young people and their elders, many of whom had attired themselves in juvenile costumes appropriate to the occasion. Games and dancing were indulged in, while items by Miss N. Meredith were heartily applauded, a fairy story being greatly appreciated. An encore number in the form of a “Letter Story’’ caused much amusement, exercising the quickness ot thought of the youngsters. Shortly befoitc supper the long-awaited moment arrived, when, following an amusing playette by the members of the dramatic ciicly, during which “Mother Shipton invoked the magic of the fairies, Santa Claus appeared m all Ins glory with a capacious saclj of presents upon ms back. After presenting every child with a gift and tv balloon, lie called upon the popular president, Miss E. Gilliam, and the hard-working secretary, Mrs. James Atkins, who had a brief return to then childhood days. Anxious to maintain the finances of their club in a healthy condition, the members of tin) Patutalu Bowling Club frequently institute efforts of n social nature. ‘Messrs. J). S. Williams, Tl. White and A. AlcGaveston deserve praise for the capable manner in which they organised Wednesday evening’s euchre tournament, as a result of which the club’s. funds will benefit materially. A dainty supper concluded a most enjoyable evening. A special mooting of the Patutalu School Committee was held last evening, nil members being present. Mr. J. Atkins occupied the chair.
